FOUR DAY ATV Safari
‘Wild Ride’ Game Park ATV Safari
Get to see the African wilderness without a steel box around you

LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK is located within a few hours of Kampala on the Masaka Road. It is not nearly as visited as most of Uganda’s other game parks although there are large numbers of wild animals, but NO ELEPHANT OR LION. This makes it particularly suited to ATV safaris as we feel that taking potentially inexperienced riders near elephants would be tempting fate. Likewise with lion and we are not providing ‘Meals-on-Wheels’! Your safety is our paramount concern and because of this slight restriction in species viewed, we can avoid possible confrontation with aggressive animals. Our extensive experience is supplemented with the support of park staff who accompany us on each safari.

The quads that we use have very effective engine silencers and so the noise levels are kept to that of your average game viewing vehicle. With the large tyres, low pressures and light weight of our ATVs; we cause much less damage to the environment then any other vehicle. We have found that we can approach very close to game (note that we must use the designated tracks in a National Park – you are NOT permitted to ride off the tracks) without disturbing them unduly.

The rides are fantastic. Nowhere else in the world can you do this sort of trip. Lake Mburo has many beautiful aspects to it. With the wind in your hair and the park opening up before you, something special happens that cannot be experienced in the back of a van – even if you have your head poked through the sun-roof.

No previous riding experience is necessary; we conduct an introductory session on the first day that will include a short game drive. This will also give experienced riders a chance to get acquainted with the machines. We recommend that if you have never driven a quad-bike before, you come on a safari with us at Bujagali Falls before this trip but we don’t think that this is essential.

On our Wild Ride Safaris we provide accommodation and meals. All park entry fees and the transfer from and back to either Kampala or Jinja is also included. In fact we supply almost everything that you’ll need except for your smile and a camera. We encourage local development by utilising existing facilities and supplementing them with our own cook.

ITINERARY– 4 days including transfers:
DAY 1. Travel from Bujagali Falls via Kampala to Lake Mburo N.P. Lunch at the Equation Café on the Equator crossing. Arrive Lake Mburo mid afternoon for introduction and then an ATV refresher course that includes a game viewing drive. Sundowners, hot showers and then an evening meal overlooking the lake. A campfire and cold drinks each night.

DAY 2 Morning safari along the western side of the main lake. Visit a fishing village and then explore some of the undeveloped tracks along the edge of the southern boundary. Moderate to difficult rides tailored to the group. Lunch back at base. Afternoon safari following the tracks around the eastern side of the main lake, then through some magnificent rolling country to Kazuma Hill Lookout. The ride back in the late afternoon; sun going down behind the hills, lines of zebra and impala walking back from watering holes and topi pairs watching our progress across the plains and through the valleys; will be one of the highlights.

DAY 3 We explore parts of the buffer zone around the park, where there are often more wild animals then inside the park boundaries. This ride is tailored according to the group. We have the option of some challenging sections that will put your skills to the test. Lunch is an option of traditional foods at a village or a packed lunch. A chance to meet the very hospitable faces of rural Uganda and enjoy varied African landscapes. You’ll appreciate the comfortable bed.

DAY 4 We give you the option of either; an early morning walking safari or boat cruise with UWA rangers or a game drive with the quads. Morning tea will be waiting for you on your return then we start the return trip to Kampala and Bujagali Falls. Lunch at Masaka, arrival Kampala mid afternoon and if you are coming back to Bujagali Falls, we arrive early evening.

Note that the guide carries bottled mineral water (supplied by us) for you. We highly recommend that you take a camera and we also suggest that you take a pair of binoculars on this trip. Protective clothing; overalls, helmet, goggles and boots are available for you. We do request that your legs are covered, that you wear closed footwear (eg. sneakers) and that you protect that most valuable appendage, your head, with a helmet.
